Xylitol Mouthwash

What is Xylitol?

Xylitol is a natural sugar that is found organically in plants, fruits, and even our own bodies! It has a sweet taste, very similar to table sugar, with virtually no aftertaste. It’s also diabetic friendly and safe for the whole family. Our xylitol is made from the highest quality birch wood and is 100% GMO-free. In addition to its pleasant taste, xylitol offers a whole host of clinically proven oral health benefits.

NATURE’S SWEET GIFT TO TEETH

WHY XYLITOL?

Your mouth contains millions of bacteria. When you eat sugary foods and carbohydrates the food adheres to your teeth, providing the perfect environment for bacteria to feed and multiply. So what does this mean?

As the bacteria consume the food, they in turn produce acids that break down the enamel of your teeth, and volatile sulfur compounds which cause bad breath. Many commercial mouthwashes combat this by using alcohol, an antiseptic, to kill the bacteria. What these companies tend to ignore is that bacteria are inherent to humans; they are always present, whether in our guts or in our mouths; so the key to a healthy mouth is symbiotic balance, not chemical warfare!

This means the use of alcohol is actually counterproductive as it leads to a dry mouth which becomes a breeding ground for excess bacteria to thrive. At Nature’s Artisan we think every ingredient should have a positive purpose, so we looked for something better.

Rather than trying to kill the bacteria, why not starve it instead? Enter xylitol.

Xylitol cannot be broken down by bacteria like regular sugar can, yet its sweet taste still elicits a salivary response. The natural enzymes in our saliva then work together with xylitol to form a protective coating which greatly reduces bacterial growth and buffers teeth from the detrimental effects of acid. We like to think of it as nature’s sweet gift to teeth! But don’t just take our word for it.
